TOP 5 SCAM PATTERNS IN INDIA
Registration Fee Scams ask you to pay ₹500–₹5,000 before getting hired — no legitimate employer charges candidates. Guaranteed Job Scams promise placement without any interview. Work From Home Scams promise unrealistic earnings like ₹50,000/month for simple data entry. Impersonation Scams use company names like TCS or Infosys but contact via WhatsApp personal numbers. Data Harvesting Scams ask for Aadhaar, PAN, or bank details before any interview.
HOW TO VERIFY A JOB OFFER
Search the company on Google and check their official website. Legitimate HR emails use company domains — not Gmail or Yahoo. Call the company's official number from their website, not the message. Never share Aadhaar, PAN, or bank details before signing a verified offer letter. If a job offer arrives on WhatsApp from an unknown number claiming to be a major company, treat it as suspicious immediately.
WHATSAPP · TELEGRAM THREAT SIGNALS
Messages forwarded many times are high-risk. Urgency phrases like "apply within 24 hours" or "limited seats" are pressure tactics. Google Form links for job applications are a major red flag. "Join our premium group" or "pay to unlock the offer" are instant disqualifiers. Poor spelling and grammar in messages from "major companies" is a strong scam indicator.
INCIDENT RESPONSE PROTOCOL
File a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in immediately. Call Cyber Crime Helpline: 1930. Report the scam on ScamShield to warn others in the community. Block the sender and report the number on WhatsApp. If bank details were shared, contact your bank immediately to freeze suspicious transactions. Document all messages and payment receipts before reporting.
